Overview of UAS World
2
Model Aircraft vs. Commercial UAS
Model aircraft are for strictly non-commercial use Less than 55 pounds; registered with the FAA; flown below 400’; line of sight; away from other aircraft, airports, groups of people, emergency response Commercial UAS Less than 55 pounds; registered with the FAA; flown by an FAA licensed UAS pilot; flown below 400’; line of sight; away from other aircraft, airports, groups of people; daytime; less than 100 mph; not from moving vehicle Waivers can be requested for all these provisions

NOAA Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program
Vision: UAS will revolutionize NOAA observing strategies comparable to the introduction of satellite and radar assets decades earlier. Program Goals: - Goal 1: Increase UAS observing capacity - Goal 2: Develop high science-return UAS missions. - Goal 3: Transition cost-effective, operationally feasible UAS solutions into routine operations Mission Areas: - High-impact weather monitoring - Polar monitoring - Marine monitoring El Nino Field Campaign
