Requirements for proving and validation flights are discussed in the following regulations: 14 CFR Part Conducting tests and inspections 14 CFR Part Route requirements: General (Domestic/Flag) 14 CFR Part Area and route requirements: General (Supplemental)

6 Operations Requiring Proving and Validation: part 121
Before part 121 operators can conduct oceanic and international operations, they must first seek approval from the FAA. This includes confirming: Crew procedures Knowledge of the airspace Contingencies Operational control Training Maintenance procedures (ETOPS, MEL, CDL, etc.) Ditching and passenger protection Adequate/alternate airport support
