Education Center EPICS The Mission Features Team Ecuador Future Work
EPICS Global Service Learning Pedagogy Explored for Construction Engineering Education B. Fulk, M. Hastak Division of Construction Engineering and Management, Lyles School of Civil Engineering, Purdue University, USA Education Center EPICS The Mission EPICS is a service-learning design program in which teams of students partner with local and global community organizations to address human, community, and environmental needs. EPICS is an academic program in which teams of Purdue students partner with local not-for-profit community organizations to provide technology solutions. On our previous trips we have designed and built a handicap ramp for the current school, bleachers for the students, and bleacher covers to provide a shaded area. Features 3 themed classrooms Library Community room Balcony with garden Handicap accessibility The current focus of Team Ecuador is to design, fundraise, and construct and Education Center for the community of Lumbisi. We are working in collaboration with FEVI and the residents of Lumbisi in order to make this building a reality. Team Ecuador Team Ecuador is a division of the non-profit EPICS program at Purdue University. Since 2012 Team Ecuador has been partnered with FEVI, a non-governmental organization, to develop education infrastructure in Lumbisi. Future Work The tentative date for groundbreaking is scheduled for May 2017. Team Ecuador is designing the Education Center to suit needs identified by the community and FEVI. (765)
