Performing Skills Unit Aims: Perform music in a range of music styles
Pupils will: Choose a programme of music Develop technique on two chosen instruments Reflect on progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement Evidence of learning Ongoing Recordings of sections from chosen programme of music Written reflections based on recordings

Composing Skills Unit Aims: Create original music

Understanding Music Unit Aims: Recognise and identify music concepts and styles
Pupils will: Identify music concepts in excerpts of music Identify and recognise music terms, symbols and signs Identify social, cultural and historical influences on musical styles Evidence of learning Ongoing Listening logs, unit assessments, research project, music literacy booklets Pupil presentations

N4 Added Value Unit Aims: Application of skills developed through PERFORMING SKILLS UNIT
Pupils will: Perform to a good standard an 8 minute programme of music on their two chosen instruments OR one instrument and voice in front of an audience Evidence of learning Pupil’s reflections on the strengths and areas of weakness within their performance Audio recording of the performance

N5 Course Assessment Aims: Application of skills developed through PERFORMING SKILLS UNIT and UNDERSTANDING MUSIC UNIT Pupils will: Perform an 8 minute programme of music on their two chosen instruments OR one instrument and voice for an examiner Complete a question paper testing understanding of music styles, concepts and literacy. 60 MARKS 40 MARKS
