Forms of Energy

2. Energy
The ability to cause changes in matter

3. Potential Energy
The energy an object has because of its place or its condition
A roller coaster has the most potential energy at the top of a hill.

4. Kinetic Energy The energy of motion
A roller coaster has the most kinetic energy when it is at the bottom of a hill.

5. Sound Energy
A form of energy that travels through matter as waves

6. Sound Wave
A moving pattern of high and low pressure that you can hear

7. Vibration
Rapid back and forth movement of matter that produces sound (examples: violin string, vocal cords)

8. Pitch
The speed with which sound particles vibrate; the faster the waves the higher the pitch

9. Volume
The loudness of sound

10. Light Energy
Energy that can travel through empty space and some kinds of matter

11. Mechanical Energy
Energy that puts something in motion
