Wizard of Oz Lyman Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz was published in Many of you are familiar with the movie that followed a few decades later, and still plays regular on TV today. Scholars throughout the 20th Century have found many Populist symbols throughout the story. Here are a couple of hints that you may find useful as you search for this symbolism. Whereas the movie uses ruby slippers, the original story had silver slippers. Also, in Baum’s version, Emerald City only appeared green because the characters were required to wear glasses that made it appear to be so.
