3 Chandauli District Population: 19 Lakhs Area: 2500 sq.km 139 villages
27 Gram Pachayats, 8 Nyaya panchayats 95 primary schools and 45 Junior high schools, 1 intermediate and 1 Degree college. Naugarh block’s literacy rate is one of the lowest amongst all blocks. VARUN runs centers where there is no other facility

4 Purpose And Goals To increase the level of literacy and intellectual development of the children in the targeted area. To give technical instruction to increase skill level To provide technical tools so that the local population can join the main stream society

5 About VARUN Voluntary Association for Rural Upliftment & Networking (VARUN) is a self- motivated, social and non-profit organization. Varun started it activities in 1999. Outline: 15 centers in 9 villages since year Asha-SV started funding in 2003. 7 centers today: Shahpur (secondary), Jariyawan, Hadahi, Aurawatad, Bhaganda, Nauva Nar. 10 educational centers converted to Govt. schools in the past. Self help group (women micro finance). - Introduce Organic Farming (Nursery, Seed Bank) Library (in 5 villages) Permanent structures in Shahpur, Dobahi and Lerha. All centers within 20km radius of Naugarh. Govt schools established in Amritpur, Horila, Lerha, Shahpur, Jharia and Pathraur. 126 VARUN children found jobs in various fields like education, police, etc. FCRA application update done. Central team validation done. People: Dr.S.P.Singh (PhD, Agriculture BHU), Late Mr. A.K.Singh (Journalist) and teachers like Ramkrit.

8 School update Expected enrolment of the students in coming session ( ) will 260 from class I to 8th standard Hadahi Center has been closed after collectively deciding with parents. 12 students enrolled in Bairgarh, Naugarh which is 3kms away from Hadahi.

9 Teachers update 2 teachers migrated.
Junior High School,Shahpur was absent from 11 October to 18 December 2017. While teacher of school Primary school, Bhaganda was absent from first April to 18 June 2017. The first teacher had been paid Rs per month while second teacher was paid Rs per month. Total unused salary from budget: Rs New Teachers: Mr.Govardhan and Mrs. Sarita.

11 General updates Active partiticipation by Ramkrit and team in multiple rallies in Varanasi related to education and rights. Worked with BHU to get 11 water hand-pumps installed in multiple villages. Women self-help group meetings conducted - close to 2 meetings per quarter. Health program : ~1000 participants/patients helped for vaccination, pregnancy, first-aid boxes, etc.
