12 STANDARDS FOR TEACHER EDUCATORS?
No surprise that teacher educators also have standards Resistance to use of standards for certification But it is difficult to resist addressing the issue of the quality of those who educate teachers If we don’t define the quality of teacher educators it will be done for us.

13 Continuing Questions 1. Do the 9 standards collectively describe the role of a teacher educator? 2. Are there teacher educators who are not served by these standards? 3. Do the indicators define the appropriate behaviors for each standard? 4. Are the artifacts listed for each standard useful to providing evidence of the indicators? 5. Does the introduction for each standard provide an orientation to the meaning of the standard?

14 School-based Teacher Educators
Given a choice of individuals, would the better person address more of the standards? Do the standards provide guidance for designing staff development for school-based teacher educators?

15 Standards as Operational Definition
Standards are not part of a “certification” system, not a matter of reaching a compliance level. See the standards as a continuum for professional growth.
