At a price of $15 million the Louisiana Purchase more than doubled the size of the United States
President Jefferson picked Lewis and Clark to organize and lead a group to explore the new territory

The American’s focused their anger on the British, mainly for their impressment policy
The practice of seizing Americans at sea and drafting them in to the British navy.

funding cuts and a lack of popular support, left the American military with few volunteers
The British were preoccupied with Napoleon in Europe
