EP324 Applied Optics Topic X ABSORPTION REFLECTION TRANSMISSION
Department of Engineering Physics University of Gaziantep June 2014
2
Aborption Light is absorbed while propagating through glass
alpha is the absorbtion coefficient. x is the thinkness of the glass.

S-Wave and P-Wave The component of the electric field parallel to plane of incidence is termed p-like (parallel) and the component perpendicular to this plane is termed s-like (from senkrecht, German for perpendicular). Polarized light with its electric field along the plane of incidence is thus denoted p-polarized, while light whose electric field is normal to the plane of incidence is called s-polarized.

S-Wave and P-Wave
5
Reflectance Reflectance coefficient (right angle): For n = 1.5 R = 4%
Note: If we use 4 uncoated lenses: T = (0.96)*(0.96)*(0.96)*(0.96) = 0.85.
