Innovation Heroku has a history of innovation, creating the first developer PaaS and carrying on through buildpacks, our Add-on marketplace and thousands of Heroku buttons. We are still innovating with features like support for Docker containers, Heroku native Redis, Kafka as a Service and Heroku Pipelines. A Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical company says Heroku Pipelines decreased time to market for new features by 42% while increasing security and quality. Open Source Heroku was born out of the open source community. Open source is used by default everywhere in Heroku. Apps run on Linux/Ubuntu. All supported programming languages are open source (we use OpenJDK for Java). Heroku Postgres is open source. Heroku Kafka is open source.
