The zone of the atmosphere in which weather occurs is known as the Ionosphere Mesosphere Troposphere Thermosphere Stratosphere Troposphere is the atmospheric layer closest to Earth and extends for about 11 miles above Earth at the equator and about 5 miles above Earth at the poles. Temperature declines as altitude increases.
