3. Keynote Address and Advocacy Training
Keynote Address by Michael Dames – Spoke on the “aha! Process” strategies developed with Ruby Payne to educate and improve the lives of children in poverty by helping community and school leaders, and teachers design programs that create effective schools and sustainable communities to help people transition out of poverty.
Advocacy Training – Staff from the National Forum presented the “talking points” for the school delegations visiting their representatives on the hill. They also shared tips and strategies to use during the meeting(s). Topics included appropriate levels of Title I funding for middle schools, 21st Century Skills, programs for students with cognitive disabilities, educating the homeless, and transitioning to and from the middle-level (an ESEA priority in the re-authorization language).
