2 What is a Personal Narrative?
A narrative is a story about a personal memory.

3 A Personal Narrative is a Memory.
It’s not about any old memory. It’s about a time so important that you don’t ever want to forget.

4 What Would Make a Good Memory and doesn’t?
Good Choice A house fire A car wreck A death Getting lost A special trip Bad Choice Getting out of bed Eating dinner Brushing your hair.

5 A Personal Narrative is...
a true story. a story that really happened. a story that happened to the writer. a story that was observed by the writer.

6 A Personal Narrative is...
a memory of one incident.

7 A Personal Narrative is...
a story that show the writer’s strong feelings and response.

8 A Personal Narrative is...
a story that make the reader feel the same as the writer felt at the time.

9 A Personal Narrative is...
a story that makes the reader think.

10 A Personal Narrative is...
a story that is written in the first person. Use these words: I, me, my, us, we

11 A Personal Narrative uses...
Transition words that help the paragraphs flow smoothly. First, Next, After That, Then, Finally, And last.

12 A Personal Narrative is...
Told in chronological order (time). It tells the story in the order that the events happened. Day one, Day two, In the morning, That evening.

13 A Personal Narrative is...
Structured and Organized. Introduction – sets up events being related. States purpose of writing. Body – describes ideas and events in new and different ways Conclusion – ends with a strong memorable paragraph, that makes a point

14 Finally a Personal Narrative is..
Fun Personal stories can be the most enjoyable to write, so have fun.

15 Narrative Overview A narrative is a recounting of an event in sequential order. The point is to pull the reader into the events involved so that the reader may have a lived-through experience. The beginning provides the reader with any necessary information about who, what, when, where, why, or how. The middle outlines a series of events presented in chronological order. The end provides a personal reaction. .

17 Brainstorm Ideas Pick out three main ideas that interest you.
Think of three supporting ideas for each main ideas. Write these onto a Paragraph Structure diagram.

18 Paragraph Structure 3 Main ideas like – food, sightseeing, accommodation, special moments, people, places, getting there, coming home, what I saw, what I didn’t see, shopping, etc.
