Explain how it feels when you get to the point where you feel like quitting. (sport, school, friendships, etc.)

Motivational dip Unit 3: motivational factors

3 Motivational dip “The Dip” by Seth Godin In closing the gap of excellence, many people settle for “good enough” instead of excellence. One reason might be a phenomenon known as the “motivational dip.” People with a burning, intense desire to achieve excellence will make it through this dip & come out ahead. They close the gap, and become EXCELLENT!

4 Motivational dip: the play
Take notes on what is shared. You are going to perform a play. Each of you has a role. Practice it. Know where you stand, how to say what you say, and practice saying it with emphasis! ACT the part & SAY IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT! Pay attention to your cues & know your order.

13 You are astonishing! You are AMAZING!
“ You have the power to change everything!” “You have the power to be the best in the world." “ How dare you squander that resource by spreading it too thin!" “ How dare you settle for mediocre just because you’re busy coping with too many things on your agenda, racing against the clock to get it all done." “ The lesson is simple: If you’ve got as much as you’ve got, use it. Use it to become the best in the world, to change the game, to set the agenda for everyone else.“ “YOU can only do that by marshaling all of your resources to get through the biggest possible dip.” (p.74)

14 The Motivation Curves Whenever you start something new and stick it out you will find it follows one of these three motivation curves. 1-The Dip 2-The Cul-de-Sac 3-The Cliff The first 2 are the most common, but the last one happens sometimes. When you can understand these curves it better helps us overcome them.

15 “If its worth doing, there’s probably a dip”
