Week of 8/8/16 Bear Time: Find your seat number and write it down in your agenda. This will be your seat number for the year. Welcome to Mrs. Lucas’ ELA Class!! You can do ANYTHING!

5 EQ: How can a PowerPoint slide about restrooms inspire a journal entry?
Students are allowed to use the restroom during and between classes Students have 2 passes during the 9 weeks for each class (a total of 14 per 9 weeks) Write about a time when something weird, funny or gross happened due to the restroom policy.

6 Bear Time 8/9/16 Respond to the following journal prompt in your class notebook. Think about last year. Write about the greatest success you had at school. It could be academic, athletic, social or whatever.

7 Watch this then add to your journal entry.

8 Tardiness 6th & 7th Grade 1st Offense: Warning/Parent Contact
2nd Offense: Administrative Detention 3rd Offense: 1 Day I.S.S. 4th Offense: 2 Day I.S.S. 5th Offense: O.S.S.

9 8th Grade Tardiness 3rd Tardy - Teacher Discretion
4th Tardy – 1 day ISS 5th Tardy – 2 day ISS 6th Tardy – 3 days ISS 7th Tardy – 5 days ISS 8th Tardy – 2 days OSS 9th Tardy – 3 days OSS 10th Tardy – 5 days OSS

10 Hall Passes Must be written in agendas and signed by assigning teacher. Students are not allowed to leave class to get an excuse. Tardy will be assigned in these situations. 10-10 Rule Students are not allowed to leave class for any reason during the first and last ten minutes of the class period

2nd Offense : Isolation, Lunch/School Detention 3rd Offense: Referral to Counselor/Parent 4th Offense: Office Referral that includes all previous interventions Parent Contact will be made after the 1st Offense

12 Find Someone Who . . . Complete the “Find Someone Who” handout by filling in as many boxes as you can with different people in the room. Don’t use the same person twice. You may also use a grown up . . .

16 PAW Signatures Students will have the opportunity each day to receive signatures from their teachers for exhibiting one of the following characteristics: Positive Attitude Working Hard Being Prepared

17 PAWSitive Card Once a student has collected 5 signatures, they will have the opportunity to redeem them for a PAWSitive Card. Students can redeem their signatures for a PAWsitive card each Friday during their fourth period class. Students will redeem their PAWSitive Card in the concession stand for a reward!!

19 Activator – The 3 Ideals Without over thinking it, write down your own definition of the 3 Ideals.

Get with your partner to perfect your definition. Then find a famous person’s quote that goes with it.

21 SummariZing Present your findings to the class and display them on the board.

22 8/11 Bear Time: List as many adjectives about yourself as you can think of in your writing notebook.

23 9 Weeks Celebrations At the end of each 9 weeks, we will recognize students for the following accomplishments All A’s All A’s and B’s Most Improved Citizenship Perfect Attendance

24 Keeping Our School Beautiful
In an effort to keep our newly renovated school looking its best: NO OUTSIDE FOOD IS ALLOWED IN THE HALLWAYS, CLASSROOMS OR RESTROOMS. THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: CHIPS, DRINKS, GUM, CANDY OR KOOL-AID. These items will be confiscated and tossed in the trash.

25 Closing Ultimately you are in control of your learning. As the teacher, I will provide every instrument needed to make this happen. I look forward to a wonderful year of learning and most importantly having fun while doing so!

Where I’m From Complete the chart on a new page in your writing notebook Read the Poem, “Where I’m From”, and then write your own. This is about you, so take it in whatever direction you see fit.

28 8/11 Writing Workshop Tell your partner three images you used in your “Where I’m From” Poem Borrow one image from your partner and find a way to use it in your poem.

29 Share and Compare 8/11 Summarizing
Write down three take-aways (things you learned or realized) from the activity. Share with your group or elbow partner. Mark through ANY that are the same

30 Bear Time: Author’s Spotlight
On a notecard, write the following: Your name and today’s date The topic and date of your writing What did you like about it? How would you improve it?
