Cell Operation
2
Standards S5P3. Students will investigate the electricity, magnetism, and their relationship. b. Determine the necessary components for completing an electric circuit S5L3. Students will diagram and label parts of various cells (plant, animal, single- celled, multi-celled). b. Identify parts of a plant cell (membrane, wall, cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplasts) and of an animal cell (membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleus) and determine the function of the parts.
3
Essential Questions How can I determine the necessary materials to create an electric circuit? How do I assemble the materials to create working circuit? What are the necessary parts of a plant or animal cell?

Your Challenge You have been chosen to work with the MVE Gaming Company to design a new version of the popular Operation game! You will be creating a version using a plant or an animal cell. The parts that you remove from the cell have to be specific parts that pertain to either a plant or an animal cell. Your challenge is to use the given materials to make a working game. We know you don’t want to set the buzzer off, but your challenge is to create a circuit so that the buzzer WILL in fact go off when metal is touched.
6
An Introduction to Operation
What goes into the game Operation to make it work? Why does a buzzer sound and light turn on when you touch metal? Watch this video for some clues on how to create your own Operation game!
7
Criteria Your GAME must have:
All required parts of a plant OR animal cell (teams can decide which cell to use) An illustrated schematic drawing of your game including the location of all the components of your game (circuit) A working circuit, so that the buzzer WILL go off if you touch the metal Labels so players know what parts of the cell they are removing Schematics need to be drawn on a white sheet of paper

Constraints Use the materials provided
Complete the challenge in the time allotted
