KNOW The U.S. is a diverse region containing every type of landform, & almost every type of climate. The main climates are humid subtropical, humid continental, & desert/steppe (dry). Most of the East has a forest biome while the Southwest has a semiarid & desert biome, and the Midwest has a grassland biome.

Mysteries of the U.S. Pyramids Activity (See S1-U.S. Population Pyramid PDF file) To help make population projections, demographers look at population statistics (demographers) to plan for such things as government programs serving the population by making “population pyramids.” In this activity, you will construct two “population pyramids” 1-for a time period in U.S. history ( past or future) 2- another country's’ population. You will analyze and interpret the data and charts you have created.

Our government is a Representative Democracy, which is organized as a republic in which citizens elect their representatives, and individual freedoms are valued. The U.S. has a capitalist economy, also known as Free Market or Free Enterprise. This system is based on private ownership of businesses with the goal of making a profit.
