1 How to get involved with your local AFSP Chapter
Our conference planning committee thought we would spend some time talking about AFSP chapters and their role in the work of the foundation.

2 I know this isn’t the first time seeing our mission today…but worth repeating for sure.

4 This idea of combining SCIENCE and GRASSROOTS has really propelled the movement forward

5 Leading the Movement ABOUT CHAPTERS

6 This about this…without a network extending to local communities…how would messages of hope…and life saving measures reach people where they live?

7 A chapter is a group of volunteers who carry out AFSP’s mission at the local level
WE are the network…

8 Chapter Design Board of Directors Committee Structure
ABOUT CHAPTERS Chapter Design Board of Directors Committee Structure Following Operating Procedures Business Plan and Budget All chapters are set up the same way. The goal is to gather a diverse group of people invested in AFSP’s mission…invested in bringing that mission to a community level.

9 AFSP chapters bring value to their communities
ABOUT CHAPTERS AFSP chapters bring value to their communities Offering educational programs Advocating for policies and legislation Raising money for research and new programs Raising awareness about mental health and suicide prevention This idea of ‘brining value’ can also be thought of ‘what’s our IMPACT on the ground?’

10 Our vision…A world without suicide
HOW WE FIGHT Our vision…A world without suicide

12 The Out of the Darkness Walks is AFSP’s largest fundraiser – they produce millions for suicide prevention programs, unite those who have been affected by suicide, and create communities that are smart about mental health. The Community Walks are held in hundreds of cities across the country, giving people the courage to open up about their own struggle or loss, and the platform to change our culture’s approach to mental health. Campus walks provide high school and college students the means to teach their peers the importance of mental health care. Early education is key! The Overnight is AFSP’s flagship event. Each year thousands join together to walk over 16 miles through a new host city from dusk till dawn to fight suicide.

13 WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? 50% of the funds raised by the chapter are available to be used locally on AFSP-approved programs. The balance supports AFSP’s research program and the creation and implementation of AFSP Education, Prevention, Survivor of Loss and Advocacy programs.
