Quickwrite #3 In the story from yesterday, “hope” is captured in the jar. Do you believe the writer intended “hope” to be a blessing or a curse? Do you believe people in today’s world have “hope” or not? Explain.

“Prometheus” Notes Summary: Prometheus,a Titan who created all living creatures from earth and water From the image of the immortal gods he fashioned man *His brother Epimetheus wanted to help, so Prometheus allowed him to distribute qualities each creature needed to survive *Epimetheus gave creatures of earth qualities each would need but didn’t have anything to give man who was most loved by Prometheus He resolved to do whatever it took to help man survive so he got help from the gods Hephaestus and Athena who were the children of Zeus *Secretly the two gods helped Prometheus in order to teach humans how to survive. Hephaestus gave Prometheus fire so mortals could use their new knowledge. *Humans learned many skills such as, reading, writing, hunting, calculating… They learned of the gods and started building altars and making images and sacrifices to honor them. *Prometheus was worried and tricked Zeus into taking the worst part of a sacrificed ox. This angered Zeus, so he took away fire from humans and chained Prometheus to a icy cliff/ mountain He then drove a strong stake through Prometheus’s chest. *Prometheus had learned from his mother, Gaea, who could see the future, that Zeus would be overthrown by a son who would hurl Zeus into Tartarus *This angered Zeus, who sent Hermes with a message of all the torture Prometheus would receive. A ravenous eagle would eat his liver daily. But Prometheus did not give in and remained chained to the cliff.
