Overview MRPM scenarios so far
S1. Paging using the active interface. S2. Location update using the active interface. S3. Idle mode signaling for multiple interfaces S4. Waking up WiFi interface via WiMAX Paging S5. Parameters Configuration of Idle Interface S6. Multi-Radio Power Management in Out-of-Coverage Areas Proposed scenarios are not stand-alone, but having close correlation. This contribution analyzes on which case the proposed scenarios are applied and the relationships between them based on the MRPM network architecture.

Focused Network Architecture

Case Analysis “The Mobile Node has both WiMAX and WiFi interfaces and subscribed to the VoIP service." A: The Mobile Node is connected to the WiMAX network and the MN’s WiMAX interface is in the active state for the Web service. The Mobile Node’s WiFi interface is turned off. B: The Mobile Node’s WiFi interface is turned on and the seamless handover happens from the WiMAX toward the WiFi by the help of the Media Independent Handover services. The WiMAX interface is entering into the idle mode or turned off. The Location Update using the WiFi active interface can happen to provide the location information. [S1: Paging using the Active Interface] [S2: Location Update using the Active Interface] C: The application service is finished and the WiFi interface is entering into the power save mode. This WiFi interface is turned off to save the power consumption and the WiMAX interface shall be in the state of the idle mode for the paging service.

Case Analysis (2) D: The VoIP call is arrived toward the WiFi interface through the WiMAX paging controller and the WiFi interface is turned on. [S4: Waking up the WiFi interface via WiMAX paging] E: The Mobile Node is moving out of the coverage of WiFi thus the WiMAX interface should be activated for the seamless handover from the WiFi network. The Mobile Node’s WiFi interface should be turned off for power saving. F: The Mobile Node detects the nearby WiFi network and acquires the configuration parameters to access the WiFi network using the active WiMAX interface. [S5. Parameters Configuration of Idle Interface] G: The Mobile Node moves out of WiMAX network and connected to the WiFi network. Instead of blindly scan and camp for WiMAX network, the Mobile node queries the information database of the WiMAX coverage map using the existing WiFi data connection. [S6. Multi-Radio Power Management in Out-of-Coverage Areas]

Conclusion The MRPM scenario descriptions in the current TR, document need to be amended by referencing the MRPM network architecture from the
