GLOBAL WARMING CAUSES AND EFFECTS By Jubel Thomas

2 What is GW Causes Impacts Remedies

3 Global Warming Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. According to the 2007 Fourth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 20th century. Most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century has been caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases, which result from human activity such as the burning of fossil fuel and deforestation

4 Keeling Curve The Keeling Curve is a graph showing the variation in concentration of atmosphericcarbon dioxide since It is based on continuous measurements taken at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii under the supervision of Charles David Keeling. Keeling's measurements showed the first significant evidence of rapidly increasing carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. Many scientists credit Keeling's graph with first bringing the world's attention to the effects that human activity was having on the Earth's atmosphere and climate.

6 Greenhouse gases Greenhouse gases are gases in an atmosphere that absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. The primary greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone

8 Causes Increase in population High and versatile consumption
Industrialization Deforestation

10 Impacts Unpredictable seasons
Natural calamities like flood, drought, storms, , flash floods etc. Melting glaciers Global food insecurity and famine due to irregular climate cycles Environment refugees New disease epidemiology Water wars Increase in temperature Rise in sea level Melting of Himalayan glaciers Arctic and Antarctic glacier melt leading to new sea routes and land masses.

12 Remedies Take necessary steps to reduce population
Reduce energy usage where ever possible Arrange awareness programs Stop deforestation
