4 Defining leadership Leadership is the process of influencing followers to achieve organizational objectives through change (Lussier & Achua, 2004) Leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what is needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives (Yukl’s, 2002) BPA 3112

5 Defining leadership Leadership is a process
means that is not a trait or characteristics that resides in the leaders but is transactional event that occurs between the leaders and his/her followers. Leadership involves influence It is concerned with how the leader affects follower. Without influence leadership does not exist Leadership occurs within a group context. Leadership involves influencing a group who have a common purpose Leadership involves goal attainment Mean leadership has to do with directing a group toward accomplishing some task or end. BPA 3112
