If There Is A Line Under A Word (Like This) ( )Then Can You Please Click On It Because There Will Be Something About The Northern Lights. Thank-you.

What Are The Northern Lights? The Northern Lights, one of several astromical (Relating or belonging to the science of astronomy)phenomena (It refers to observable effects, events, or occurrences) called polar lights (aurora polaris), are shafts or curtains of coloured light visible on occasion in the night sky.

How Are The Northern Lights Created? The Aurora Borealis - Northern Lights are caused by the interaction of Earths magnetic field with the flow of highly-charged particles from the sun. Collisions of these particles with atmospheric (Relating to or located in the atmosphere) molecules (causes energy emissions visible light.)

How Long Has The Northern Lights Been Around For? The Northern Lights has been around for...............................................................................................................................................................A LONG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Colours Can The Northern Lights Be? The colours of The Northern lights can be: Pink Purple Yellow Blue Red Green Etc... Etc... All sorts of colours!!!

How Did The Lights Get Their Colours? Have you ever wondered how the Northern LightsNorthern Lights (Click Here Please) get their different colours... or how neon lights get their colour? The glass tubes of neon signs are filled with gas. When they are turned on, the electrical voltage energizes electrons in the gas, causing them to emit light. The colour of the light you see depends on the type of gas in the tube.

How Did The Lights Get Their Colours? Continue... Every gas creates a different colour of light: helium - orange/white, neon - red/orange, argon - lavender, krypton - gray/green, and so on. The colours of auroras are determinedauroras (Click Here Please) by the gases in the Earth's atmosphere, atmosphere (Click Here Please) and incoming solar particlessolar particles (Click Here Please) tend to collide with different gases at different heights.

How Did The Lights Get Their Colours? Continue... Very high up (above 300 km / 185 miles),high (Click Here Please) oxygen is the most common gas, and collisions there can create a rare red aurora. The common yellow-to-green light is produced by collisions with oxygen at lower altitudes (between 100-300 km / 60-185 miles).

How Did The Lights Get Their Colours? Continue... Around 100 km / 60 miles, nitrogen molecules produce a red light that often seems to form the lower fringes on auroral curtains.auroral curtains (Click Here Please) Lighter gases high in the atmosphere, like hydrogen and helium, make blue and purple colours, but we cannot always see them in the night sky.
