What it states: Prohibited the manufacture, sale, importation, and exportation of intoxicating liquors (alcohol) in the U.S. Reason for the Amendment: Many people believed the prohibition of alcohol would help reduce unemployment, domestic violence, and poverty.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

What it states: States that the right to vote cannot be denied or abridged on account of gender Reason for the Amendment: Many states began to grant women the right to vote, so soon Congress passed a constitutional amendment
