ESF in Gothenburg - and especially the project Gothenburg Together

ESF in Sweden ESF has 8 NUTS 2 districts and it means that the regions of Halland and Västra Götaland has it’s own ESF regional plan but the program is national The municipal of Gothenburg has employees in ten city districts and 19 administrations for different themes We have ca 12 EU or international developing managers in different parts of the City and when we apply for new ESF projects we work cross over if its possible We have close contact with the MA for ESF and the region that we are a part of because both the calls from ESF and our projects have to be in line with our developing plans.

Asylum seekers in Sweden
To apply for asylum is not the same as actually get you permanent residence permits but this figures tells a lot about how the politics on the national level has changed and still that we have large groups that have to be integrated in the society as well as in the labour market.

The target group are men and women that have got their permanent or temporary residence permits in Sweden and has received some type of accommodation in Gothenburg Explanation for who can be in the establishment phase – etableringsfasen. Responsible the establishment is the Public Employment service witch is a national authority in Sweden.

Objectives To reach at least 525 participants during three years
150 participants are in the program at the same time To make a fast track to the labour market To supplement the regular efforts when it comes to language training and civic orientation To give knowledge of the Swedish labour market and laws regarding for example equality between men and women To give individual support that can’t be done in the regular system

Challenges Most of the participant have none or very low education
Their living conditions are very poorly when it comes to personal space, most of them have no apartments of their own They have none or very low knowledge about the country they now are supposed to live the rest of their life in Most of the women comes from a background where women not are supposed to work – which affect also the men and all ideas about gender equality The religious freedom sometimes don’t match the laws that regulates the labour market and that can cause disscussions
