3. What is Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).

“Each student with emotional or behavioral disorders has a unique combination of strengths and needs, and each teacher should seek out and build on those strengths.”
Children suffering from bipolar disorder are entitled to a free and appropriate public education (fape)under IDEA.
“For some children, providing the appropriate modifications and accommodations they need is the only way they will be successful in their school experiences.”
Introducing an iep for these students can be the difference between students learning or being stuck in a corner and ignored.
