3. Network Applications
Ask students to list some network applications. (Ex. Web Browser, application, Microsoft Office applications that are accessing a file on the cloud, etc
A network application is a computer application in which either the program you are using, the data you are working with, or both, are on a network.

4. Web Browsers
Web Browsers are network applications used to access the Internet. In fact, they are among the most popular network applications in the world.
Each web page has a unique address, URL (Uniform Resource Locator) so that any computer can locate the information.

5. URLs Think of URLs as street addresses for the Internet.
The general syntax for a URL is:
protocol
host
location
Protocol- the language computers use to “talk” to one another
Host- identifies the resource (network drive, computer, web page)
Location- identifies where to find a resource on the host

Have students label the parts of the browser. You may also want them to explain what each part is used for. You can do this activity on paper or as a group discussion.
