1 UNITED SERVICES MILITARY APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (USMAP)
ELEMENT 11

2 What is USMAP? USMAP is a program that United states Navy and Department of labor assist sailors to get certified as apprentice, journeyman, and even certain licenses .

3 How Does it work? Sailors log hours for the apprentice or journeyman they are going for, after reaching required hours, they get a certificate that is recognized by the Department of Labor.

4 Who is eligible? Sailor must be A highschool diploma, or GED
Be active duty Approved for rate / apprenticeship

5 How to enroll? Simply log into the USMAP website. And click the ENROLL/REINSTATE tab. And follow the step by step instructions

6 I’ve enrolled, now what? Once enrolled a sailor must log his own hours on the website, and print out a summary semi-annually and have it signed by the sailor’s division officer and turned in.

10 Do you have time? Most apprentice/journeyman require at least 4000 hours or more, and hours to not carry over into the civilian world, and cannot be worked on in the reserves unless active.

11 So let us do the math! The program is based on a 40 hour work week. Unless justified by including written explanation on log sheet. 40 hours a week + how many weeks in the year , but we will keep it simply 52 And that is 2080. So you need at least a couple years to finish a lot of the certificates, and only one can be worked at one time.

12 That is a long time, is there any free hours?
Pre-registration credit is hours that are given only at time of initial trade enrollment, if eligible. Pre-registration credit will NOT be awarded for trades of 2200 hours or less. Pre-registration credit will never exceed 50% of the total required hours. Credit is based on the date of completion of your Rating/MOS training which qualifies you for the trade: the date of completion must be one full year prior to the trade enrollment date to be eligible for credit, 1000 hours for each full year. For trades that require additional instruction or an NEC, the credit will be based upon completion date of the additional training.

13 Common mistakes Not ensuring your home address is valid
Forgetting to submit your semi-annual report Running out of time.

14 So what is in it for me? You work in a job or field in the military, why not get qualified to work in the civilian world? An example is the A&P license an Aviation Structural Mechanic (AM) can acquire through 8000 hours can make an average of 32 dollars an hour. Simply put it is free, and will help you succeed in the civilian world!

15 Summary USMAP program is a way to receive civilian “qualifications”
It is an easy program and does not take much time to do Every rate is eligible Have something to use for your hard work in the military
