Amending NUTS: new articles
Article 1 new paragraph 3 The LAU classification and the statistical grid complement the NUTS classification. The LAU classification as referred to in Annex III is the common statistical classification of territorial units on local level enabling collection, compilation and dissemination of harmonised European statistics on local level. The statistical grid is the common statistical grid of enabling the dissemination of harmonised European grid statistics. October 2014

Amending NUTS: new articles
Article 1 new paragraph 4 Typologies complement the NUTS and LAU classifications by attributing types to the territorial units based on the functional characteristics on the regional or local level to increase the informative value of European statistics. Statistical grids are a neutral system of statistical geographies and complement typologies and classifications for functional analysis. They are also used to define population based typologies. October 2014

Amending NUTS: new articles
Article 2 replaced paragraph 5 The LAU classification subdivides in each Member State the NUTS level 3 into maximum two further levels of detail of territorial units as laid down in Annex III, The Member State transmit to the Commission the national LAU level, of which at least one is administrative according to Article 3(2). The LAU classification adopts for each territorial unit on local level the code and name used by the national statistical office of respective the Member State. Measures designed to amend non-essential elements of this Regulation and adapting Annex III shall be adopted within the framework of the procedure referred to in Article 3(4). October 2014

Article 4 deleted Article 5 new paragraph added Within the first six months of each year, Member States shall transmit to the Commission the geographical information for all changes of the LAU territorial units for the previous year along with the total resident population effected and in so doing shall respect the electronic data format requested by the Commission. New Article 5a The Commission defines common European typologies of territorial units for the sake of harmonised European statistics at the regional and local level. The definition of typologies shall lead to a mutually exclusive attribution of types. Typologies are administered and disseminated by the Commission. Typologies for the NUTS and LAU classifications are laid down in Annex IV. Member States shall transmit data set out in Annex V to the Commission (Eurostat) about typologies. The arrangements for the data transmission, including the applicable time limits and the electronic data format is set out in Annex V. October 2014

New Article 5a European typologies Measures designed to amend non-essential elements of this Regulation and adapting Annex IV and V shall be adopted within the framework of the procedure referred to in Article 3(4). October 2014

New Article 5b Grids Grid-data that is disseminated for the sake of European statistics shall make use of the harmonised definition in the Directive 2007/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 March 2007 establishing an Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) and its implementing Regulations. Article 7 two new points elaboration of a Manual on regional and local typologies approved by the Member States for ensuring the high quality of European statistics related to typologies; publishing of both the Manual on regional and local typologies as well as the resulting typologies.
