3

4 1) What is electromagnetic induction?
On what factors does induced emf depend?

5 The speed at which the magnet or the coil moves. Area of the coil.

6 2) State Faraday’s laws of electromagnetic induction.

7 3) State Fleming’s right hand rule and Fleming’s left hand rule.

8

9 4) Mention two uses of DC motor and two uses of AC.

10 5) What is a transformer? Explain the types of transformer and what is the relation between current and voltage of primary and secondary coils? The device that used for stepping up or stepping down the AC voltage is called a transformer. Step up transformer: A transformer that increases the input voltage of an AC source is a step up transformer. Step down transformer :A transformer that decreases the input voltage of an AC source is a step up transformer. The relation between current and voltage of primary and secondary coils of a transformer can be expressed as,

11 6) Draw a neat sketch of A.C. Dynamo and label the parts.

12 7) Draw a neat sketch of D.C. Dynamo and label the parts.

15

16 1)What are semiconductors?
Distinguish between extrinsic and intrinsic semi conductors. Ans : The substances which have conductivity lying between that of conductors and insulators are known as semiconductors.

17 2)What are semiconductors?
Distinguish between n type and p type semi conductors. Ans : The substances which have conductivity lying between that of conductors and insulators are known as semiconductors.

18 3) What is meant by forward and reverse bias of a diode
3) What is meant by forward and reverse bias of a diode? Indicate in figure. When the positive of the battery is connected to p-region and the negative terminal of the battery is connected to n-region of the junction diode it is said to be forward biased. When the positive of the battery is connected to n-region and the negative terminal of the battery is connected to p-region of the junction diode it is said to be reverse biased.

19 4) Mention important characteristics and applications of a diode.
Ans : A p-n junction diode allows current to pass through , preferentially in one direction.

20 5) What is a transistor? Distinguish between p-n-p and
n-p-n transistor. Ans : Transistor is a resistor that amplifies electrical signal passing through its input to output terminals. It is a three terminal semiconductor device.

21

22 6) What are the functions of three regions of a transistor?

23 7) Mention the applications of a transistor?

24 8) Write a note on superconductivity.
