Directions Look at the sound devices in the poem: alliteration, assonance, consonance, onomatopoeia. Highlight or underline and label all the sound devices. Alliteration—the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words. Assonance—in poetry, the repetition of the sound of a vowel or diphthong in nonrhyming stressed syllables near enough to each other for the echo to be discernible (e.g., penitence, reticence ). Consonance—the recurrence of similar consonant sounts in close proximity Onomatopoeia—the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g., cuckoo, sizzle ). Complete the quiz. Remember that if there are 2 answer spaces for a question, you must provide two correct answers for full credit. Write on the answer sheet provided. Do NOT write on your quiz paper. When you finish, take out your bell work sheet and complete the task to the right. If you do not finish the quiz in time, the task to the right is your homework.
