When the student has failed 2 or more quarters.
When the student first starts showing signs of struggling.
When the parent asks for help.
When the student starts to struggle and the Performance Series, MAP and/or DIBELS show the student at risk.

6. How to Identify a student for Tier II Strategic Interventions
A student needs to be identified as being at-risk based on the PS, DIBLES, MAPS cut score.
A student can also be identified for needing further interventions by not progressing adequately through the curriculum.
A student can also be identified for needing further interventions by your professional judgment.
Once this determination has been made, fill out the excel sheet and send to me.

7. How to do Tier II Strategic Interventions
If a student is at-risk, then the teacher needs to be meeting with the student once a week for a 30 minute one-to-one session for 6-8 weeks.
Progress monitoring should be done weekly.
Smart goals should be created – what are you working towards specifically?

8. This year, we are not needing to get formal parental permission to start Tier II. It will be a requirement that students attend the scheduled interventions.
We do need to get parental permission for RtI follow through. For example, if the student is using Study Island as one of the interventions, the parent needs to agree formally to make sure the student is doing it.
The goal is that the student starts strategic interventions earlier and gets support quicker.
You need to fill out and send me the RtI excel ANYTIME you need a Tier change.

10. What to do after 8 weeks
After 8 weeks, examine the data that you have collected through your weekly progress monitoring.
If the student has made marked improvements towards achieving the smart goal – move back to Tier I and notify RtI coordinator.
If student is making progress towards achieving the smart goal, but needs a little more support – leave in Tier II and notify RtI coordinator
If the student is not making adequate progress towards the smart goal and you feel further evaluation is needed, contact the RtI coordinator and administration to set up a Tier III meeting/evaluation request.
Be sure to include your progress monitoring data and how it relates to the smart goal when you notify the RtI coordinator.

11. Move to Tier III
If your data shows that little to no improvement has been made by the student, then the student needs to be moved to Tier III
The student will need 90 minutes of intensive interventions per week for 4 weeks.
New smart goals will need to be made. You will need to add to the excel sheet and send it to me
Be sure to progress monitor weekly.

13. While in Tier III
If you feel that further evaluation is needed, then contact the RtI coordinator and administration to set up a Tier III meeting with the parent.
Be sure to have the smart goals and the progress monitoring data.

14. Tier III/Evaluation meeting
The entire team meet to discuss the interventions.
Gains and successes are celebrated – student progress towards achieving the smart goal
Concerns are addressed - progress monitoring data is presented.
If the student still is not making adequate progress, further testing is recommended and discussed by the academic director.
