6
Enzymes Special PROTEINS Act as biological catalysts
Substance whose job is to speed up the rate of a chemical reaction The specific location where a substrate binds on an enzyme is called the active site.
7
HOW ENZYMES WORK
8
Enzymes Act by lowering the activation energy of the reaction
Are very specific with respect to the reactions that they will catalyze… They will only catalyze one specific substance because they actually bind with that substance in a unique way
10
Energy & Reactions The activation energy is the minimum amount of energy needed for reactants to form products in a chemical reaction. This reaction is EXOTHERMIC and heat energy is released. The energy of the product is lower than the energy of the reactants. This reaction is ENDOTHERMIC and heat energy is absorbed. The energy of the products is higher than the energy of the reactants.

ABC’s of Biochemistry For each of the following letters you are to: 1. label the page with the letter and the term, 2. draw a related picture, 3. Give an example/ definition, or answer the perspective question. Be creative and make making your book. Use your imagination to display the ABC’s of classification.
