Investigative terms to know before the debriefing….
Weathering: The process when rock and other materials are BROKEN DOWN by natural forces. Erosion: The process when sediment is removed or CARRIED AWAY by natural forces. Deposition: The process when sediment is DROPPED OFF or settles down onto the land from agents of erosion.
3
AGENT WAVE $ 1 million
4
Question: Where does agent wave get his energy from?
Answer: The wind that blows across the surface of the ocean.
5
How do waves ERODE (& weather) coastlines?
6
IMPACT!! impact - Large waves hit rocks with great force along the shore. Over time, this creates large sediment and expands cracks in rock.
7
How else do waves ERODE (& weather)?
See picture for a CLUE!! What is another more “medical term” for a cut or scrape?
8
ABRASION!! When you get an abrasion on your body it is because something has scraped skin off of you. Just as something sharp or hard can abrade your arm, so can waves on coastlines!
9
abrasion – The scraping away of rock in coastlines as sediment is carried forward by waves. During this process it also carries away the broken rock. Coast

4 EROSION landforms/CRIMES formed/committed by AGENT WAVE to follow…
11
1) Headland This forms when waves erode most of the coastlines, and what is left is the harder rock which takes longer to break down.
12
Headland 2) Sea Cave This forms as waves crash on the shoreline. The weaker, softer rock is weathered and ERODED leaving a hollow cave in the coastline cliff.
13
3) Sea Arch Headlands These form when 2 sea caves meet at a headland.
14
4) Sea Stack Missing headlands
Forms when the headland of a sea arch collapses, as a result of weathering and EROSION.
15
4 DEPOSITION landforms/CRIMES committed by AGENT WAVE to follow…
16
4 landforms made by wave DEPOSITION
3) Barrier Beaches 1) Beaches These are all formed as a result of currents carrying sediment. Sediment is DEPOSITED where the current slows down. 2) Spits 4) Sandbars

AGENT WIND $ 1 million
18
Last, but not least Heim experts will investigate…
Agent Wind!

CLUE: You may find deflating matter at a birthday party!!
Most likely you will find me DEFLATING the surface of the Earth. Have you heard of this word before? Please do share…. CLUE: You may find deflating matter at a birthday party!!
20
Balloons deflate!!
21
GROUND Deflation – The process by which wind removes surface materials, such as sediment.
22
Abrasion (by wind) – As wind carries sediment over surface of Earth it may polish the rock it goes over. This causes little erosion. Occasionally, I will abrade the rock I fly over. I don’t do this nearly as much as my fellow Agent Waves though!
23
2 landforms/CRIMES committed by AGENT WIND to follow…
24
Landforms made by EROSION and DEPOSITION:
1) Sand dunes 2) Loess

Congratulations. After attending Mrs
Congratulations!! After attending Mrs. Heim’s Agent Waves and Wind debriefing you are now experts on these two agents of erosion. Be sure you are prepared to teach your peers using this presentation Monday!
