19 White Cane Day By Ilexia Navarro

20 White cane awareness day
Is celebrated October 15th world wide It was first celebrated in 1964 in the U.S. It is celebrated to educate the world about the independence of individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

21 What is a white cane? A white cane is a tool used by people who are blind or visually impaired in order to navigate safely and independently.

22 Things to remember A cane is not a stick or a walking stick
Ask first before helping someone who is blind, and please respect it if they don't want help. Please identify yourself when speaking to a person with a visual impairment, and let them know when you are leaving. Say your name when you begin a conversation, and don't forget to say good bye when you are leaving. Use a normal voice when speaking and when giving directions, use specific words such as left and right. Individuals who are blind or visually impaired are just like everyone else, we can accomplish the same things, just in different ways.
