A clear idea about what should happen, or be done, in the future. Something that you imagine: A picture that you see in your mind. A lovely sight. The picture that is shown on a screen. Source:

3 Some facts about eyes The human eye is composed of more than 2 million working parts. After the brain, the eye is the second most complex human organ. 60% of the information received by our brains is through our eyes. 80% of what we learn is through our eyes. 80% of our memories are determined by what we see.

6 Some facts about vision impairment
"Low vision (or visual impairment) is when your sight can't be corrected with glasses or contact lenses, or by any medical or surgical treatment." (Source: body/living-with-low-vision/) Around 253 million people live with vision impairment globally: 36 million are blind and 217 million have moderate to severe vision impairment. Around 19 million children are visually impaired. Of those, 12 million children have a vision impairment due to refractive error (long- or short-sighted). Around 1.4 million children have irreversible blindness, requiring access to vision rehabilitation services. 80% of vision impairments worldwide are avoidable or treatable.

What would this experience be like without your sense of vision? Close your eyes and describe what you can sense. What experiences have you had that would be different without your sense of vision? When you are out, take a moment to close your eyes and notice how that experience would be without your sense of vision.

13 Miriam Hyman was on her way to work as a picture researcher when she was killed in the “7/7” London bombings on 7th July Miriam discovered she was short-sighted when she was a teenager. She loved art and nature so her eye care services were especially important to her.

14 The Miriam Hyman Children's Eye Care Centre (MHCECC) is Miriam’s memorial in India. It is in the L V Prasad Eye Institute.

15 It is in Odisha (or Orissa), one of 28 Indian states.
