BIG TAKE AWAYS Recognize what Body Worn Cameras can and cannot do for your community. If you are going to implement Body Worn Cameras, do it right. When you think you are done implementing Body Worn Cameras, think again…..you are not.

Body Camera Realities What Body Worn Cameras can do:
Enhance transparency, accountability, and trust Produce a ‘civilizing effect’ Enhance training Improve the complaint resolution process Better document evidence

Body Camera Realities What Body Worn Cameras cannot do:
Be the sole solution to address transparency, accountability, and trust Resolve all problems related to Officer misconduct Fix poor training programs Fix poor or non-existent complaint resolution processes Turn themselves on (at least not yet)

Get the right people involved Ensure transparency Provide adequate resources Research best practices Fully examine technology
