Objective: To present the Otto Cycle to students.
2
The Otto Cycle The Six Steps to the Otto Cycle
Intake Stroke: A mixture of air and gasoline is drawn into the cylinder.
3
The Otto Cycle Six Steps
Compression stroke: The fuel-air mixture compressed, causing a rise in temperature.
4
The Otto Cycle Six Steps
Explosion: The mixture is ignited by spark plugs, leading to a rise in pressure and temperature.
5
The Otto Cycle Six Steps
Power Stroke: The hot gas then does mechanical work by pushing the piston.
6
The Otto Cycle Six Steps
Valve exhaust: Outlet valve opened and exhaust escapes.
