Scientific Method Observation, gathering information
Hypothesis – possible explanation for an observation Designing and performing an experiment. Collecting data to check if hypothesis is valid/correct. Qualitative data (describes quality). Example: This desk is wide. Quantitative data (describes quantity). Example: This desk has a width of 9 ft. Analysis of data. Conclusion – summarizes and presents the result of the experiment. Conclusion can develop into theory and law. What is a difference between the theory and the law????

Theory and law Law is a description of a phenomenon.
Law states what happens. Example: Law says that apples always fall downward and lets calculate the speed of fall. Law does not explain why apples always fall down. Theory is an explanation of a natural phenomenon based on many observation and investigation over time. Theory attempts to explain why something happens. Theory explains that apple falls downward because of the gravitational force.
