See Front Matter Use chart as a reference - “at a glance” summary of the Movement Competence strand. Movement Skills – stability, locomotion, manipulation plus Movement Concepts – body awareness, spatial awareness, effort and relationship with movement principles taught as needed. Students do not need to know the names of the various principles but will be learning how to apply the principles as they learn and practice movement skills. Plus Movement strategies – building thinking skills as students apply what they know about movement skills and concepts to a variety of activities. MS are taught through a process of experiencing the activity, developing an awareness of the tactics needed to succeed, making decisions about how to be successful in the activity, applying skills and learning new skills as needed, then using the skills in an activity. Taken together, the goal is that students will develop the competence and confidence to participate in physical activities.
