A&E Sections Opinion Writing

Granite Bay Gazette October 2013

Arts and Entertainment
Many high school newspapers include Arts and Entertainment (A&E) pages and sections. These sections include a mix of features and reviews, as well as local and national arts and entertainment stories.

A&E versus the opinion section
The goal of the opinion section is to take a stand on issues that affect the school. The A&E section promotes creativity and fun, giving students ideas of things they can do, and promotes school community members creating art.

A&E stories Reviews: Opinion stories recommending things readers should try (or not try) based on writers’ experiences and observations. Features/profiles: Unbiased stories that focus on community members and how they create art, participate in the arts, or are fans of entertainment.

Reviews Coverage on the page includes the actual review, artwork (make sure you follow copyright law) and often quick facts or opinions (such as MPAA rating or how the reviewer rated the topic). Granite Bay Gazette Granite Bay, Calif.

Features A&E features follow regular feature writing style, but focus on arts and entertainment. A&E often provides room for fun design ideas. El Estoque, Monta Vista H.S. Cupertino, Calif.

Other elements A&E sections can feature anything else the rest of the newspaper may, such as • photo essays • calendars • graphics
