1. Base: 90 % of bases are made out of bread. Bases can also be crackers, veggies, or cheese. 2. Spread: used as a moisture Barrier. Popular spreads: You can add mayo and garlic and make an aioli. You can add butter and an herb and make compound butter. 3. Filling: Main component of a canapé 4. Garnish: Must be edible and give the canapé height

What is the difference between an Hors d’ oeuvres and a Canapé?
Canapés are served cold and are one bite. Not generally part of a whole meal An Hors d’oeuvres is a pre courser to a meal meal, usually served warm or hot and at least 2 bites. Sometimes Canapés are served as an hors d’ oeuvre.
