Math 6 Literacy Syllabus
Syllabus is on my blog and everything on it will be discussed today.

What is Math Literacy? The goal of a Math Literacy class is to aid in a student’s mastery of the necessary math skills that relate to the new concepts they will be learning and to preview the vocabulary of the unit so the students will gain confidence in the regular classroom. Math Support classes will use a reverse grading system from the O/L Math 6 class as we will use a variety of strategies to check for student understanding that will not include traditional tests. We will weight Formative Assessments 70% and Summative Assessments only 30%.
6
Notes From Mrs. Myler… The students were selected by: IOWA scores, SMI scores, grades, EOG scores, teacher recommendation, etc. Mrs. Myler initiated this placement by looking at data; once we get to know the students better, we may suggest some kids move out or even move into the class. The students overall show some deficiencies in math. Placement in this class isn’t permanent; we re-evaluate every nine weeks. There is a reading class adjacent to your math classes (no massive schedule change) This class is used to support the regular math curriculum. Strategies such as pre-teaching skills, improving comp challenge performances, etc. are done. Reading is still incorporated through the ELA classes. The separate reading classes focus on supporting the other contents/STEM. In this class we will also be working on vocabulary workshop.
