3 --John 15:5 (NLT) “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those
who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” --John 15:5 (NLT)

5 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your
sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. --Colossians 3:1-4 (NLT)

6

7 1. Build up the body by thinking about your heavenly life

8

9 13b …They [the past examples of faith] agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. 14 Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. 15 If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. 16 But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. --Hebrews 11:13b-16 (NLT)

10

11 5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.
Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. --Colossians 3:5-9 (NLT)

12

13 2. Build up the body by putting off your earthly life

14

15 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. 12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us... (cont’d) --Colossians 2:10-17 (NLT)

16 Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
...all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. --Colossians 2:10-17 (NLT)

18 3. Build up the body by putting on your heavenly life

19

20 Paul says, “make allowance for each other”.
The biblical sense actually means more than you think. Literally, it means “endure or bear with one another for your own good or the good of another.” Paul is saying, “forgiveness builds up the body of believers” and biblical forgiveness is done in the past, present and future.

21

22 Future tense forgiveness
means this: respect is given, not earned

23 Present tense forgiveness
means this: reconciliation is offered, not demanded

24 Past forgiveness means this: forgetting the offense,
not remembering it

25

26 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down
one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. --John 15:13-14 (NLT)

27

28 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment:
Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” --John 13:34-35 (NLT)
