Be Free Galatians 3:1-13 – “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Be Free But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”

Be Free How simple is it to be saved?
It is as simple as entering a door. (John 10:9 – “I am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.”) It is as simple as calling for help. (Romans 10:13 – “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”) It is as simple as coming when called. (Matthew 11:28 – “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”)

Be Free How simple is it to be saved?
It is simple as receiving a gift. (Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”) It is as simple as drinking water. (John 4:14 – “Jesus said, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”)

Be Free How simple is it to be saved?
It is as simple as eating bread. (John 6:35- “I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”) It is as simple as believing God. (John 6:47 – “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”)

Be Free Romans 1:16 – “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.”

Be Free I Corinthians 1:17 – “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.”

Be Free Verse 1: “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?” “Foolish” – Does not denote natural stupidity, but a failure to use moral and spiritual discernment “Bewitched” – Means to cast an evil spell on someone “Before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth” – They had clearly understood the Gospel, yet now were confused about it

Be Free Verse 2: “This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” Refers to salvation to the reception of the Holy Spirit Romans 10:17 – “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.”

Be Free Verse 3: “Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” “Are ye so foolish?” / v.1 – Reminds them of their lack of spiritual discernment “Are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” – The Galatians were mistakenly trying to achieve perfection through the flesh Romans 7:18 – “For I know that in me that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing.”

Be Free Verse 3: “Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” “Are ye so foolish?” / v.1 – Reminds them of their lack of spiritual discernment “Are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” – The Galatians were mistakenly trying to achieve perfection through the flesh Galatians 5:17 – “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, and these are contrary the one to the other, so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

Be Free Verse 4: “Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.” “Have ye suffered so many things in vain?” – Have you experienced so many wonderful things without effect?

Be Free Verse 5: “He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” Mighty works were dependent on their faith The law has no power to save or change lives

Be Free Verse 6: “Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Paul brings up the subject of Abraham for several reasons: Abraham was the father of the Jewish nation – Genesis 12:1-3 Abraham was the clearest example of justification in the OT – Genesis 15:6 Abraham’s faith stands as an example – Romans 4:18-21

Be Free Verse 10: “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” “As many as are of the works of the law” – Those trusting in the law for salvation “Are under the curse” – The law they are trusting will bring God’s wrath and condemnation Romans 8:2 – “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law sin and death.”
