AVID Closes the Achievement Gap for ALL Students
What will I do in an AVID class? Skill development in areas such as note-taking, organization, time management, public speaking, and test taking. College preparatory activities to help you learn about a variety of colleges and universities through guest speakers, field trips, and research. You also prepare for college by practicing for the SAT/ACT, filling out applications, exploring financial aid, etc. Mentoring by the AVID teacher and counselor to help monitor your progress and set goals. Study groups help you to go over difficult material and study for tests. Career exploration introduces you to a variety of career options. AVID Closes the Achievement Gap for ALL Students What is AVID? Who can be in AVID? AVID is an internationally recognized program designed to prepare students to meet the requirements for admission to college at the end of high school. AVID targets highly motivated students and holds these future college students to the highest academic standards in order to be successful in college. AVID provides a four-year academic, social, and curriculum support program through enrollment in a mandatory elective AVID class. Students who: Want to be in the program Have the potential and desire to go to college Are willing to work hard Have a GPA of 2.5 and above Have average to high test scores Have good attendance Have a good behavior record Are willing to commit to rigorous college preparatory courses (Advanced Placement classes) To change this brochure, replace our sample content with your own. If you fit the AVID criteria, you will be called in for a personal interview. If selected, you will be asked to sign an agreement to be in the AVID program for four years.
