2 Verbs A verb expresses an:
action, a condition, or a state of being. The two main types of verbs are action verbs and linking verbs

3 Action Verbs An action verb expresses action. The action may be physical or mental. The student _______________ into class. (physical) The student _______________ in class. (mental)

4 Linking Verbs A linking verb links the subject of a sentence to some word in the predicate. There are two groups of linking verbs: forms of to be, and verbs that express condition.

5 Linking Verbs Forms of To Be: Am, is, are, was, were, been, being
Verbs of Condition: Look, smell, feel, sound, taste, grow, appear, become, seem, remain Forms of To Be: Am, is, are, was, were, been, being

7 AUXILIARY Verbs Auxiliary verbs, also called helping verbs, are combined with verbs to form verb phrases.

9 Prepositions A preposition shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in a sentence. The most common relationships expressed are location and condition.

11 Prepositions Prepositions very rarely stand alone, but are most often followed by a Prepositional Phrase.

12 Prepositional Phrases
A Prepositional Phrase consists of a preposition, the object of the preposition, and any modifiers of the object found between. The object of a preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition.
