2 Source Geologists look for rock formations that
might hold natural gas. Pressure and heat turned decayed plants and animals to natural gas.

3 Efficiency & Cost In fuel cells, electrochemical reactions convert natural gas into electricity more efficiently than the traditional combustion method. Direct natural gas is 3x more efficient than coal plants

4 Equipment 3-D and 4-D Seismic Imaging- it creates a 3D model that allows to show subsurface layers CO2-Sand Fracturing- opens the formation and allows for increased recovery for oil and natural gas Coiled Tubing- replaces the traditional rigid jointed drill pipe with a long flexible coiled pipe string, used in combination with slimhole drilling to provide very economic drilling conditions which lessens the damage caused to the environment Measurement While Drilling- allows for the collection of data from the bottom of a well as it is being drilled Slimhole Drilling- drilling a slimmer hole in the ground to get natural gas and oil deposits Offshore Drilling- drilling for oil in the deep ocean Hydraulic Fracturing- used to free natural gas that is trapped in shale rock formations

5 Consumption U.S. Canada Mexico Central and South America Europe
25.6 % Canada 3.0 % Mexico 1.4 % Central and South America 4.0 % Europe 19.5 % Former Soviet Union 22.8 % Middle East 8.4 % Africa 2.5 % Asian and Pacific Countries 12.7 %

6 Usage Natural gas is used to produce steel, glass,
paper, clothing, brick, electricity and is an essential raw material for many other common products.

7 Advantages It's clean... Natural gas is the cleanest of all fossil fuels and is only produces carbon dioxide and water vapor when it combusts. It's domestic % of the gas we use comes from North America. Increased use of natural gas can reduce our dependence on oil imported from the Middle East. It's economical... Natural gas appliances are virtually maintenance-free and that means additional savings. It's efficient... When the entire cycle of producing, processing, transporting and using energy is considered, natural gas is delivered to you with a "total energy efficiency" of about 90%. It's multi-purpose... It can heat your entire home and water, dry your clothes, and cook your meals — in the oven or on the barbecue grill. New residential uses range from fireplaces and air conditioners to microturbines and fuel cells. It's dependable... You never have to worry about weather, delivery schedules or running out.

8 Disadvantages Geologists explore natural gas deposits on land and might disturb vegetation and soil with their vehicles. Well drilling activities produce air pollution and disturb wildlife. Even though it is cleaner than coal and oil, it still contributes a large amount of carbon dioxide to the greenhouse effect. If your house is not properly insulated, it can be very expensive to heat. If natural gas were to leak, it could potentially cause an explosion, destroying much property and releasing carbon dioxide.
