1. Develop Team Charter Make sure all areas (i.e. roles, responsibilities, tasks and notifications to those impacted the process) are established! Work on quad chart Project description Key improvements and accomplishments Healing pathway metrics Process tracking metrics ISE 428 ETM 528 AKG Lean Healthcare Overview Spring 2016

3.Study and Implementation
Help the team identify and understand impediments to healing, wastes and other obstacles that disrupt workflow. Prioritize what can be accomplished in a short time. Implement changes required to achieve future state. ISE 428 ETM 528 AKG Lean Healthcare Overview Spring 2016

5. Evaluation and Follow-up
Use rapid improvement event newspaper as a tool to check the progress of the actions to be completed Use the quad chart to update process metrics and determine whether the event is meeting its objectives Eliminate barriers Document efforts in a report or “QI story” presentation ISE 428 ETM 528 AKG Lean Healthcare Overview Spring 2016

GLOSSARY Healing Pathway Analysis(HPA) (page 10) A structured and facilitated event during which a cross-functional team progresses methodically through a series of interactive and evaluative steps aimed at eliminating waste, eliminating impediments to healing and improving the flow of patients through the healing pathway. Quick Changeover (page 182) Method of reducing materials, skilled resources and time needed for equipment setup to implement a one-piece flow in a cost effective manner. Rapid Improvement Event (RIE) (page 210) A facilitated, structured, team-based event aimed at further refining and actually implementing improvements to portions of a value stream. Rapid Improvement Newspaper (page ) A tracking tool used to ensure completion of actions identified during an RIE that cannot be completed during the actual event.
